City Officials recently announced that Chicago will install a bus rapid transit system on Ashland Ave. The bus system will run in the center of the road and stop les frequently than most city busses much like a subway. This is another step forward for connectivity and public transportation between neighborhoods along the Ashland Ave corridor.

The city today selected a 16-mile stretch of Ashland Avenue as its first location for a form of mass transportation that is widely used around the world but just beginning to creep into America, so-called bus rapid transit, or BRT. Officials, led by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, said the limited-stop express service will run on Ashland between 95th Street and Irving Park Road, a particularly dense corridor that includes the University of Illinois at Chicago, Malcolm X College and the United Center, and which connects to several Chicago Transit Authority and Metra train lines.
