Blackhawks, city reach deal to build new practice facility

There's a lot more ice hockey coming to the Near West Side. In a highly anticipated move to bolster youth hockey participation in the city, Chicago Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have reached a deal to build a two-rink, 125,000-square-foot practice facility two blocks south of the United Center on the current site of Malcolm X College. Construction on the few facility is expected to begin next year and projected to be completed within two years, according to the Blackhawks. The Malcolm X campus, which currently sits at 1900 W. Van Buren St. between Damen and Ogden avenues, will soon move across the street to a new building at Jackson and Damen. Read More...
