Sale ends Fifield's ambitious West Loop plan

Steve Fifield's ambitious plans for a West Loop development overlooking the Kennedy Expressway have come to an end. After scrapping two proposals for major office developments over the past decade—including a vision for a 75-story tower—a joint venture of the Chicago-based developer and Los Angeles-based CBRE Global Investors sold the site at 601-625 W. Monroe St. for $28 million in November, property records show. The sale to a venture of Vancouver, B.C.-based real estate investor Pacific Reach Properties ends Fifield's long-running effort to use the 60,000-square-foot site to capitalize on growing demand for downtown office space.
