Will developers ruin the Fulton Market boom?

Real estate developers are so pumped about the Fulton Market District that they're dropping two Willis Towers and two Block 37 malls on the trendy neighborhood. Welcome to Fulton Market 2.0. With the opening of the new McDonald's headquarters on West Randolph Street just weeks away, expectations for the West Loop neighborhood have kicked into overdrive, fueling a flurry of activity, especially among office developers. About 6.6 million square feet of office space is under construction there or in the planning phase, enough to almost fill two Willis Towers. Developers are counting on another wave of office tenants flocking to the neighborhood, following Google, the first big corporate tenant to move there, in 2015, and McDonald's, which is moving from its longtime home in Oak Brook.
