Hotels could be the next course on West Randolph

With crowds packing its acclaimed restaurants and thousands of office workers relocating to the neighborhood, Chicago's meatpacking district now wants visitors to lie down and stay awhile. Developers are making plans to open four boutique hotels, the latest phase in the gentrification of the Fulton Market-Randolph area. Although three of the projects are a long way from city approval, a few hundred new hotel rooms would represent a key step in creating a 24-hour neighborhood, particularly after Google Inc.'s announcement that it is moving its Chicago office there.
