A Fulton Market pioneer sets its sights westward

One of the developers that set off the transformation of the Fulton Market District is making its first bet on the western end of the trendy corridor. In a deal that could accelerate westward development in the fast-changing neighborhood, a venture of Chicago-based Shapack Partners paid $8.5 million this month for a roughly 27,000-square-foot property at 224 N. Ada St., Cook County property records show. It's the first Fulton Market purchase west of Morgan Street for Shapack, which was behind seminal projects such as Soho House that helped trigger the shift of the former meatpacking district into a mix of chic hotels, restaurants, retailers and major corporate offices.
